This equipment control officer provides IT Service Desk Operations support for several facilities centered around Lackland AFB. Primary responsibilities all center around asset management, documentation, and assisting end users resolve IT issues via the helpdesk and trouble ticketing systems.

Duties/Responsibilities: This position will include, but is not limited to, the following tasks:

  • Receive all Air Force Equipment Management System (AFEMS)-Asset Inventory Management (AIM) or Defense Property Accountability System (DPAS) accountable assets and completes necessary documentation.
  • Work with other Information Technology Equipment Custodian (ITEC) within the organization to ensure all IT hardware equipment listed is assigned to their AIM account.
  • Provide guidance and procedural policy on the management of IT hardware assets.
  • Implement/support program IAW with AF, DHA, AFMRA, and JBSA Lackland, policies regarding Information Technology Asset Management (ITAM).
  • May develop and mandate locally generated products and/or forms to ensure accurate documentation and data entry for the addition, transfer, deletion, or disposal of IT assets. ECO will lock ITEC accounts in the case of noncompliance.
  • Perform self-inspection using AF-approved, self-inspection checklist for the ITAM program. Provides the checklist to the COR/NCOIC, AFMRA IM/IT Support Branch upon completion.
  • Monitor and respond to hardware, software, and network problems usinghardware and software testing tools and techniques.
  • Assist with installation of terminals and associated hardware.
  • Provide technical, administrative, and operational management of assigned projects, including contract and subcontractor management.
  • Assemble, lead, and supervise the project team.
  • Provide customer assistance support in setting up microcomputers and/or installing software packages, when required.
  • Provide user training for hardware/software products; identifies problems and resolves hardware/software/network malfunctions; perform minor hardware/software/network maintenance such as board replacement, cable switching, communication assistance, hardware (printers) installation/replacement; interface with mainframe, LANs, Networks, and provide analysis support for such requirements.
  • Perform Start Up, Power Off, Shutdowns and Power Failure Recovery procedures when required.
  • Promptly and accurately report all maintenance calls. Notify vendors of software and hardware problems, and work with vendors to correct system faults.
  • Provide a quarterly ITAM report containing, at a minimum, the following: list of accounts, primary and alternate account holders, date of last inventory, list of any incoming or outgoing account holders, last training date, list of any reports of survey, and explanations of any problem areas or any recommendations concerning the Major Command Equipment Control Officer (MECO) or ECO duties IAW CDRL A008.
  • Provide an inventory of all AFMRA, AFMSA, AFMSA-South, and1 MRS assigned equipment to the COR to be coordinated/signed by the commander or delegate 14 days prior to date of previous signed annual inventory.
  • Perform IA remanence procedures/clearing Defense Reutilization Materials Office for approximately 2,000 pieces of equipment per year.
  • Route all IT refresh requests and requirements through the COR/NCOIC, IM/IT Support Branch for approval.
  • Provide an annual plan in coordination with yearly refresh detailing strategy for rollout of new desktops, laptops, tablets, monitors, and digital printing and imaging devices.
  • Maintain a current listing of all devices signed out to remote users including name, section, device type, serial number, and ITEC account the device is assigned to IAW CDRL A009.

  • At start date must possess CompTIA A+ CE certification in ACTIVE status.
  • Minimum five years of experience in AF IT Asset Management/Management experience.
  • Minimum five years of experience working with military IA policies and procedures.
  • Minimum one year knowledge of computer hardware, including desktops, laptops, printers, scanners, and smart phones.
  • Local travel is required; must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Due to a customer requirement, as a condition of employment for this position, the successful candidate will be required to obtain and provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination prior to commencing employment.
  • Pursuant to a government contract, this specific position requires U.S. Citizenship.
